School Introduction

Tokyo Cool Japan is a vocational school specializing in games and animation, training students to be at the forefront of the industry. Its sister school, Tokyo Designer Gakuin, is a comprehensive academy with a 50-year history of animation education and has taken over its curriculum, enabling students to acquire skills that can be used in society in two years. Practical classes are conducted by active professional instructors.

Department Introduction

  • Game Department

Team up with students from different majors to create original games. Develop human resources with both sensitivity and communication skills.

  • Animation Department 

Acquire professional skills from scratch in two years.Understand the various processes and hone the required skills through a well-developed curriculum and team-based animation production.

  • Voice Actor Department 

The students voice many of the university's original games and animations. An audition is held in October of the second year, where each individual is judged, and after the audition, students can make connections with companies while still in school.

Main Features

Practice-oriented classes

Students gain experience that cannot be gained from lectures alone through industry-university co-operation, production with professionals while still in school at on-campus production companies, and by exhibiting work at the Tokyo Game Show and Anime Japan. 

Employment support 

Provide support at on-campus company information sessions and industry seminars, and individual interviews. At the Industry EXPO, a job hunting event for first-year students organized by the Adachi Gakuen Group, full support is provided for job hunting activities in preparation for recruitment activities starting in the winter of the first year.

AO pre-school system

AO entrants only can take special classes for 0.5 years prior to enrolment. They can attend a total of 11 classes free of charge and acquire basic skills before enrolment.

School Location

Sendagaya is a town in central Tokyo, yet surrounded by greenery.Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku are located close by, and you can cycle to Harajuku and Omotesando in about 10 minutes. At the same time, it is surrounded by facilities and shrines such as the National Stadium, Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Shinjuku Gyoen and Meiji Jingu Gaien, where you can live in peace and quiet. Furthermore, the living environment is well equipped for food, clothing and housing, with many restaurants and a short walk to Shinjuku and Harajuku, so there is no need to worry about shopping.

Game Department

Course Description

1. Game writer 

Acquire the skills and knowledge to become a professional writer. ‘Game writers’ who create game reviews and strategy articles, ‘game scenario writers’ who create stories and conversations for games, ‘novelists’ who write original works for games and animation, etc.

  • Game Scenario Course: Learn the basics of scenario writing and story and character make-up to become a successful scenario writer in the games industry.
  • Novel Novels Course: Learn techniques and idea generation methods for novels and novellas, with the aim of debuting as a novels writer or novelist.

 

2. Game planning 

  • Making plan proposals: Learn how to come up with ideas and how to write a proposal format from the very beginning.
  • Game scenario & creation: Students in the Games Department work together to create the game. The planners will then facilitate the ideation, presentation and production of the game.

 

3. Game programmer 

Develops programmers who are active in the development field. The course focuses on programming languages such as ‘C#’ and ‘C++’, which are the basis of game development, and also teaches the game development engines ‘Unity’ and ‘Unreal Engine’.

  • Comprehensive game programmer course: Courses that imagine the production of consumer games, such as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch games.
  • Mobile apps course: A course that imagines the creation of an application game.
  • Online games course: This course teaches network technology and work on multiplayer online game production.

 

4. Game illustration 

Learn drawing skills and how to use 2DCG software. Also learn about background design for characters and world views, UI, key visuals and setting drawings at the development stage.

 

5. Game 3DCG 

Students learn how to use CG software and a wide range of techniques, from drawing to engines. You can aim for a job as a 3DCG designer that suits you.

 

6. Game sound

Classes cover a wide range of ‘sound’, from the production of background music and sound effects to voice recording game development engines for games.

 

7. E-sports 

  • Professional gamer course: In addition to practical classes, students can learn physical training, English conversation, etc.

Animation Department

Course Description

1 . General Animation 

Curriculum to equip students with skills and animation knowledge for real-life situations in order to be immediately effective in the animation industry.

  • Animation director course: Learn about the animation production process and become an animation director/director.
  • Animation Artist Course: Students learn everything from hand-drawn drawings to digital filming, and acquire the ability to produce animation on their own.
  • Production and producing course: Students learn about the various parts of animation and aim to become animation production managers.

 

2 . Hybrid animation 

The curriculum focuses on drawing and croquis to improve drawing skills for characterisation.

  • Animator course: Students learn both analogue and digital drawing and aim to become animators who can work in any production environment.
  • Animation Character Course: Students study animation drawing and digital illustration, aiming to become character designers.

 

3 .CG animation 

Develops students to acquire solid CG skills and to become active at the forefront of ever-evolving animation production.

  • Animation filming course: Students learn AfterEffects skills and 3DCG.
  • Art Backgrounds Course: Students learn both paint and digital backgrounds, and aim to become background artists who can choose the method of expression that best suits their work.

4 . 3DCG・VFX 

Students pursue live-action compositing techniques and realistic expressions, and learn know-how that will enable them to work in a wide range of fields in the visual arts as well as CG animation.

Voice Actor Department

Course Description

Voice actor 

Students learn the high level of acting skills required of voice actors and the fundamentals of vocalization and pronunciation to support these skills.After graduation, students can go on to become animation song singers, narrators, TV personalities, radio personalities, animation song vocalists, etc.

 

Movie creator
