School Introduction

ISI's first campus was established in 1992 in Nagano, and over the years ISI has grown to become one of Japan's largest Japanese language schools, opening another 4 schools in Tokyo and one in Kyoto, reaching over 3,000 students from over 110 countries. The ISI group also opened a university in Tokyo (Beijing Language and Culture University), as well as 2 vocational schools, one in Tokyo (Tokyo Business and Language College) and another in Nagano (Nagano Business and Language College).

Main Features

Four-year study plan
The school is attached to a vocational college (Nagano Business and Language College), and upon graduation from the Japanese language course, students are given priority for admission to the vocational courses (Department of International Communication and Global Business) . After completing two years of Japanese language study, students can enroll in a two-year diploma course at a specialized school, and students can receive a total of four years of integrated education.
Interaction with Japanese people
The campus is home to both Japanese and international students studying for a specialist degree, so you will be able to interact with them a lot on campus and during out of school activities and cultural festivals.
Inexpensive student dormitories
The student dormitory is located within walking distance of the school and has a good value for the price.
A rich natural environment
The campus is located in the castle town and the area around the school is rich in nature. There are also ski resorts and tourist attractions with plenty of activities.

School Location

ISI Nagano is located in Ueda City, in Nagano Prefecture. Ueda is the center of a major tourist town, a beautiful city with rich nature and traditional history and culture in harmony. It is located approximately 90 minutes from Tokyo by the Shinkansen bullet train. Compared to the big cities Tokyo and Osaka, Ueda City has a lower cost of living and great nature, and is suitable for those who want to study in a regional city that is not a big city but is convenient in terms of living. It is a student town with many universities and vocational schools, as well as many international students and foreigners. Ski resorts are an hour’s drive away. It is also famous as a city of samurai, with castles and historical sites related to the samurai. The school is located near tourist attractions such as the Ueda Castle, the Ueda City museum or other activities including the Toho Cinema.

General Japanese - Long Term

Course Description

The Academic/General Japanese Course at ISI Japanese Language School is a long-term course for students who want to obtain a student visa and study Japanese for various purposes, such as entering a Japanese university or graduate school, finding a job in Japan, passing the JLPT, or improving their conversation skills.

The Specified Skilled Workers’ Employment Support Program
  • The Specified Skilled Workers’ Employment Support Program is a special program that students can add to their General Japanese course. It is designed for people that want to obtain Specified Skilled Worker Visa type 1. Students will take internships and receive employment support throughout this program (8 different levels are offered from April and October enrollment so students from any Japanese level can join this program)

General Japanese - Short Term

Course Description

The General Japanese Short Term course is one that can be taken for as little as 2 weeks while on a visitor, tourist or short-term stay visa, and is aimed to develop the 4 major skills (“listening”, “reading”, “speaking”, and “writing”), according to your current Japanese level.

Winter Program - Short Term

Course Description

With The Winter Program, you can experience skiing, hot springs, cultural, international exchange, and learn Japanese at the same time in the snow resort of Nagano.

It is designed for students of the N5~N3 JLPT level that are over 15 years old.

The course offers a premium program for 2 and 4 weeks and a general program. The premium program includes a ski trip.

 

The Winter Program is currently suspended.
